CASE STUDIES
Privately funded by corporate and individual giving, in-kind donations and private foundations, SHARE VILLAGE Las Vegas does not rely on federal grants to execute its mission and urges other cities to do the same through identifying an integrated approach of corporate social responsibility and community initiative. The property long term financing partners include Berkadia and Freddie Mac. SHARE VILLAGE Las Vegas operates three campuses located in the East Fremont District of Downtown Las Vegas, NV.
Independent living with intensive supportive services
Once the navigation through the labyrinth of public resources is completed and financial resources have been established, the individual family transitioning out of homelessness can begin to experience a more permanent housing setting.
Fostering an environment that supports individuals and families as a whole, including children and pets, promotes independence and is the final step toward achieving self-sufficiency.
Supportive services including easy access to food, transportation and medical/mental healthcare and access to recovery programs and job search/referrals is still essential at this stage.
Other types of supportive services can include assistance with compliance for benefits issued by government agencies. This is most often achieved through partnerships with other agencies and organizations in the community.
Structure is an essential need at this point in the transition. Establishing a schedule for access to services reinforces the need for personal responsibility and accountability.
Centralizing services and establishing community collaborations along with public/private partnerships are the keys to establishing a program that engages the public at large to be a part of the solution to end homelessness.

SHARE VILLAGE MASTER PLAN
SHARE VILLAGE Las Vegas, provides access to 24/7/365 emergency, transitional, assisted living and permanent housing residence for United States Veterans and families in need operated by the nonprofit organization SHARE, a 501 © 3 nonprofit organization has created and implemented a master plan to end homelessness and to serve as a replicable national model for long-term and sustainable housing solutions for vulnerable Veterans and families.
“It is impossible to alleviate or end homelessness and the lack of affordable housing without building and renovating homes,” said SHARE VILLAGE Founder Arnold Stalk PhD. across the nation, every city experiences homelessness for all people, and every city in both urban and rural parts of the USA has abandoned buildings, unused spaces, old and under performing motels or apartment buildings. Through determination, collaboration and hard work, our Veterans would be given clean, safe, functional places to live if the rest of the nation implemented what we are doing right here in Las Vegas. It is my goal to take our efforts and expand throughout the rest of the nation. There is no reason for the brave men and women who have fought for our country or families to sleep on the streets, live in vehicles, in parking lots in storm drains or in substandard slum dwellings.”
The four-step approach includes emergency housing, transitional housing, and permanent rental housing. It relies heavily on the collaboration between agencies in a city including organizations such as the VA, HUD, Salvation Army, Goodwill, The Red Cross, US Vets, Safe Nest, HELP/USA, HELP of Southern Nevada, Catholic Charities and the Veterans Administration.
The existing SHARE VILLAGE Las Vegas components of this master plan include:
- SHARE Village #2 Permanent Affordable Housing includes 10 repurposed homes made from ocean shipping containers. (300 people per night)
- SHARE Specialized Needs Affordable Housing (75 people per night)
- SHARE Veteran & Families Affordable Housing (60 people per night)
The national model of connecting otherwise segmented private agencies and corporations to unite against Veteran homelessness has earned much success in Las Vegas and throughout Southern Nevada. Through the SHARE Village master plan template, other cities will be offered the tools, processes and information to coordinate, create and strategize a similar model in an effort to end Veterans homelessness for good across the USA.
